Wellness is defined as the quality or state of being in good health especially as an actively sought after goal (a lifestyle that promotes wellness). Knowing what you know now, do you mean it when you say “I am well!”? Use short pauses between segments of statements and a longer pause at the end of each statement. Pause longer and more frequently than you normally do. The other voice pattern—the connection pattern—is used for developing friendships or seeking information. Save the connection voice pattern for creating an emotional connection or building relationships, not for offering your brilliant solution.

A friend of mine comes from a large family. Whenever the family got together for holiday dinners,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], my friend’s husband had trouble being heard. He got frustrated because members of his wife’s family constantly interrupted him when he was talking—sometimes in mid sentence. His wife said that was just the way her family operated. Timing and Duration of the Gesture
Let me tell you a true story—
You’re the expert, the one with the credentials‚ and it was your idea. So why did everyone listen to the other guy instead of you? Perhaps because your body sent a different message than you thought it did.
You are well into another meeting and suddenly the solution strikes you. You’re ready. Now is your time to shine! You’ve just got a brilliant idea! Finally, a solution to the problem the team‚ has been struggling with.
You may have been using the right words, but the wrong nonverbals. Unless you plan to filibuster next time you have the floor,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it’s time to harness the power of your body language, by using nonverbals that project confidence in yourself and others.
You present your idea, but no one seems to pay much attention, they just keep on going kicking around ideas. Out of the blue, that guy sitting across the table (you know the one) actually interrupts and paraphrases what you just said no more than five minutes ago. And suddenly,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it’s his idea. He’s the genius‚ not you.
Keep a calm cadence in your voice, with clear articulation and pacing of words. Use the credible voice pattern. A credible voice pattern maintains a flat sound until the end of the phrase or sentence. As you end each sentence, drop the chin slightly—that’s the nonverbal period (it also drops the tone of your voice). People in higher positions within a business or people who have positions of authority usually use the credible voice pattern. Practice listening for the credible voice pattern, you will soon see how it commands attention. It maintains an even steady tone until the end. Remember the famous line: "Bond, James Bond".
Use the Nonverbal Pause to Project Confidence
What just happened? Did that guy steal your idea‚ or did you give it away,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]?
If you’re moving about the room while you are talking, move with intent, no pacing. If you’re standing still, have your weight on both feet, posture erect. Put your forearms in one of the three following positions: waist-high in front of your body, both arms at your sides, or a combination (one arm at your side and the other forearm at your waist parallel to the ground). If seated, keep only your wrists, comfortably on the table,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], hands resting together but not clasped. No forearms and certainly no elbows. No slouching. Back straight to create erect posture.
He finally shared with family members what he was doing to be heard over the long-standing tradition. Soon,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], other family members started using a frozen gesture when they paused if they “wanted to hold the floor.” Paradigm shift—family style. The sideways palm gesture says that your idea is important but it’s open to discussion. (If it’s not open to discussion, use a palm down gesture.)
As he began his pause, he gestured with his arm, then froze his gesture mid-air, (as in not moving). The frozen gesture indicates there’s more, “I’m not done.” He chose a sideways palm gesture to indicate "I'm serious," as he was serious,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], he wanted to be heard. It worked much to his amazement.
Holding a gesture still in mid-air during a silent pause holds people’s attention. The key is not to move or change the gesture until you’re done with the pause, and the next words start to come out of your mouth. Not only is the gestured pause a good way to hold the floor, it helps connect what you previously said to what you are about to say. If you really want to increase the anticipation of what’s coming next, hold the silent, gestured pause a second or two longer than you normally would, lean slightly forward,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and have the next words come out as a whisper.
Use Your Posture to Project Confidence
Once you begin to present your idea, use a slow smile. A fast, big grin at the beginning lowers your value in the eyes of the listener. Use more eye contact than you normally do. Limit blinking. If seated, you can lean forward and put your forearms comfortably on the table as you get to the real “juicy” part of your brilliant idea.
Use Your Voice to Project Confidence

7. Be in Gratitude for your sustenance. Take time to appreciate the gift of provision. &nbsp,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych];The state of gratitude releases stress from your body and opens you energetically to receive the nourishment from your foods.
We weren’t meant to eat a smorgasbord at every meal. No other animal in nature does that. When we try, we are wasting the earth’s gifts of sustenance and harming our bodies. We’d be better off to throw the foods away directly. Remember, your body is not a trash can.
6. Take time to connect with your foods before your eat. Honor the earth by respecting its gifts before you send them down the hatch. This practice is respectful of your Mother – it sends positive vibes to the one who provides your sustenance.
5. Reduce or eliminate the use of plastic water bottles. Instead of purchasing filtered or spring water in disposable plastic water bottles, use a water filter and either a glass or a reusable stainless steel water bottle.
Where I grew up, pollution was so heavy, the sky glowed orange and the smell of burning chemicals lingered in the air. I was born in 1963 on the Texas Gulf Coast near a conglomeration of oil refineries.
2. Eat whole foods close to the way they come from the earth. Honor the gifts that come from the earth by taking them in as close as you can to the way they are given to you. This allows you to enjoy the natural taste and texture of the food. Once you become accustomed to eating foods close to their natural state, other forms are not as satisfying, and you’ll be able to sniff out artificial ingredients a mile away.
Here’s a tip for eating out. Most restaurants serve portions that are more than we need to eat in one sitting. Take an earth-friendly reusable “to go” container with you, and put half of your meal into the container before you begin to eat. This will help you to not over eat and give you a yummy meal to look forward to the next day.
Thanks to the many efforts and campaigns of the environmental movement (and the food movement), we’ve come a long way in veering that fast-moving freight train away from the face of the mountain.
1. Eat fresh, organic, local foods wherever possible. The best situation is to know your farmer. When you shop local farms and farmers markets, meet the farmer or those who work the farms. Find out about their practices and values. Learn about what goes into your foods. You might even take a day to volunteer on their farm. It’s an opportunity for connecting with the earth, which is very healing.
Admiring your food – its good looks and fragrance – stimulates your senses. Your mouth begins to water, your stomach begins to gurgle. This activates your digestive system, getting it ready to take in the nourishment you are about to send it.
We – the earth and humans – were made to live in harmony with each other. When one is out of synch, so is the other. You can see this reflected in the state of our planetary health and human health. The state of our environmental health reflects the state of our bodily health, and vice versa.
The health of our planet is still far from perfect,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but we have made huge strides in getting that trajectory turned around. If you feel it in your heart, take a moment to send out a pulse of gratitude to those who have dedicated their lives to this cause. I can’t imagine where we’d be now if not for their efforts.
4. Eat simple combinations of foods. If we put too many different foods into the body in one sitting, the body cannot digest any of them well, and we end up losing out on the nutritional values of the individual foods.
Those were the good ol’ days. We had it made, right? More accurately, ignorance was bliss.
It always comes back to the same basic guidelines. Whether you’re looking at balancing pH, maintaining healthy diet and hydration, supporting hormone balances or caring for the earth, the same principles continue to surface.
Eating is meant to be pleasurable. Meal times are meant to be enjoyable. It’s respectful of the earth and good for your body, too.
Eating smaller portions is also healthier for your body in terms of weight and digestion. It is much healthier to stop eating before you feel full. Eating more slowly and taking full breaths between bites helps you notice when you are no longer hungry and stop eating before you have stuffed yourself,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
When we abide by the natural laws of the earth, we end up with an environment that supports and honors the body. When we abide by the natural laws of the body, we end up with an environment that supports and honors the earth. The earth has its universal laws of nature,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the body has its universal laws of nature.

In honor of Earth Day – April 22,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 2013 – here are 7 ways to honor the Earth that also honor your body:
Earth Day started in 1970,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], inspired by Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring written in 1962,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], one year before I was born. This marked the beginning of the environmental movement.
I remember my aunt exclaiming with great surprise when she bought a new car with a guarantee on the paint job. She lived across the street from the refineries, and the air pollution honestly was bad enough to fade paint from a new car within a year. No kidding!
Trash was thrown freely from the windows of moving cars without a thought. Litter lined the ditches alongside the roads. I have no idea who came along to clean it up. No one seemed to care.
Television commercials were all about making life easier with Hamburger Helper, Betty Crocker, Tony the Tiger’s sugary breakfast cereals and Oscar Mayer’s packaged lunch meats compressed into squares and evenly sliced to make the perfect sandwich.
Eating local also saves on shipping or trucking expenditures – less fuel consumption – and it usually means the foods are allowed to ripen more before they are harvested,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which means higher nutrient value and better taste!
Gratitude shows respect for the earth and puts the energy of gratitude back into our Mother,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Respect your mother!!&nbsp,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]; J
Better yet, honor the earth and your body by sticking to no more than 3 foods at a meal. Eat simply, live well.
Plastic water bottles which leach harmful chemicals into the water – harmful for your body – and pollute the earth – both in the production process and the exorbitant amount of trash left upon the earth.
All of these principles help to reduce our footprint on the earth and support better health for our bodies. By conserving the earth’s resources,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we conserve our own. By keeping our bodies clean,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we support efforts to keep the earth clean.
Eating whole foods that are not processed or over-cooked preserves the enzymes that are naturally contained within the foods so your body can use them in the digestion process. This will give you even more gratitude for what the earth provides and honor your body with clean, whole foods.
3. Eat smaller quantities. Eating right-sized portions reduces waste and saves on your personal food budget. If everyone in the United States alone practiced this principle, think about how much we could reduce consumption and production needs, saving on the land and its resources.
Consider these principles for Earth Day, and consider making every day Earth Day. After all, why would you only want to honor your Mother one day a year?

Since imagination can produce anxiety, it is reasonable to assume it can also minimize or reduce anxiety. So, the following is an exercise using imagination in a way that may help diminish anxiety responses when they arise. You may need to practice this exercise initially while not anxious to get the hang of it. But,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], once you are familiar with it, you can do it easily at the onset of anxiety.
Imagine a dial; a large dial with a movable needle pointing to a scale between 10 arcing to the left and 0 arcing to the right. In the middle is 5.0. Imagine increments from 0 beginning with 1 and then 2 and then 3….up to 5. From 5, see the dial’s increments divided even more definitively, such as 5.5 to 6 to 6.5 to 7. From 7 see it with even more divisions such as 7.25, 7.5,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 7.75, 8, 8.25, 8.5,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and 8.75. And then from 9,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it goes 9.1, 9.2,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], 9.3,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and 9.4 up to 10. Imagine this dial in detail with color and texture. You can make the needle and the numbers any color, and any texture, you like. Develop a mental picture of this dial and become very familiar with it. 10 represents very high anxiety/panic levels. 0 represents extreme relaxation and calmness.
The next time you feel anxious, visualize this dial and note where the needle is pointing. Perhaps it will point to 7.75 on your anxiety meter. Then, because it is YOUR imagination, you can lower the needle to 7.25 and then 7.0 and then 6.5. Each time it lowers a notch,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], take a deep breath. Slowly,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you can bring the meter down to a 5 and maybe even a 4. As the meter gets closer to the 2 level, the calm and relaxed feeling associated with that level will increase, as the anxiety level associated with 7.75, or wherever you may have placed it during an anxiety attack, will decrease.

There is little debate that most anxiety is a symptom of internal cognitive/psychological machinations. We think in both mental pictures and internal dialogue and depending on what we are telling ourselves, and what we are seeing, we may generate irrational anxiety. We often do not hear what we tell ourselves, or see those internal mental images, consciously; but they nevertheless exist as a subconscious process and have tremendous power over our moods and emotions. As an example of just how powerful our mental imagery can be,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], imagine sucking on a lemon rind. You may find yourself salivating, from nothing more than a mental image,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], an imagination. Anxiety too is a chemical response produced by imagination. Those imaginative images in our mind may not be true at all, but they nevertheless produce neurochemicals – and anxiety.

The key to success with this method is to focus on the dial and seeing it move slowly downwards notch by notch taking a deep inhalation and exhalation of breath with each movement to a lower notch. If the mind is focused on the imagery of the needle moving to lower numbers, it won’t be able to entertain the irrational imagery and internal dialogue generating the anxiety…and the anxiety will diminish, as the needle moves down to lower numbers.
At some time when you are most relaxed and comfortable, visualize this dial and note where the needle is pointing. Perhaps it is pointing to 2. This is a calm and relaxed state and the anxiety meter is indicating such. As you see the needle at the 2 level, note what you are feeling in your body. What does this level feel like? Let this feeling flood over you…really FEEL it.

When we're in this head space, we're bitter, helpless, and feeling like others are out to get us or deliberately want to do it to us. Lots of unfair and unjust stuff happens to undeserving people. Whatever hits the fan is usually not evenly distributed in most workplaces. But it's our choice whether to stand in it or not. Taking a navigator response to difficult issues means facing problems head-on by focusing on what's within our direct control or what we can try to influence. We need to then figure out how to let go of, or at least not 'awfulize' and give more power to problems or issues that can't be controlled or changed.

Or, if capitalize is too extreme a word, we may be at least trying to figure out how we can make the best of — or work around — a bad situation. In this mind set we're like the seasoned ship captain of old, he knew he could not control the wind and currents, but he could adjust the sails and steer the ship to make the best use of the winds and currents to move toward their destination.
For the past few years, I have been using a simple concept to discuss our choices in dealing with difficult problems. Surveys and feedback from my workshop or retreat participants, continually point to the few minutes we spend on this basic model as the most powerful part of our time together. It may be basic and seem obvious,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but many of us seem to need constant reminders and help because it is so easy to sink "below the line."
That leads to deepening cynicism, despair, and inaction. Pay attention to your own moods and watch for defeatist language like "they will never listen," "what's the point," "we've tried that before," or "why bother." Keep the problem in perspective — don't get so drawn into the issue that it's all you can see. Step back and look at the bigger picture. What's going right? What's working in your favor? How could this change lead to something better? What are the possibilities?
Challenge your thinking through weighing objective evidence against your fearful outcome. List more desirable alternatives or what you would prefer to happen. "Decatastrophize" your long-term fears by recalling all the times things have worked out successfully in the past. Examine and question the usefulness of dwelling on your feared belief or concern. Harness the power of imagery — counterbalance fears of what all could go wrong by ensuring you have a clear picture of what outcome you want from this situation. What would a successful result look like? What would you be doing with the key players involved? How would you be feeling? What mind set have you adapted to rise above the difficulties and problems? What actions might this lead you toward? Step back to step ahead — the busier and more frantic the pace of work becomes, the more critical it is for you to carve out personal reflection and renewal time.
Shift Your Perspective Life isn't fair
Talk through the situation with a colleague, mentor,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], coach, or spouse. Describing and discussing the circumstances will force you to re-focus on what's happening — as long as you don't commiserate with people who love to find conspiracies everywhere and be a victim.
